The Carnegie Library in Bartlesville
The Carnegie Library in Bartlesville was completed by February 1913, when W. H. Johnston sent a picture postcard and letter to Elizabeth Stewart, who is assumed to have been a secretary of the Home Trust Company in Hoboken, New Jersey, the company handling approvals of blueprints and allocation of awarded funds to Carnegie Library funding recipients.
This letter reveals that the library was completed using tile for the roof, and Carthage stone for the foundation, with Library Bureau Company furnishings of 146 chairs and 6 tables in oak, an adequate heating system, and a 150 barrel cistern for water. Adjustable shelving was installed to hold 80,000 books.
Construction and furnishing of the building came in at $400.00 over allocated funds, final resolution of this overage is not readily revealed in written records available for review.
Current disposition of the building is unknown at this date.
