The McAlester Carnegie Library

The McAlester Carnegie Library served its community as a public library until a new library was built in 1970. The historical building then served several other uses before it was deemed unsafe due to flooding in the basement and torn down in 1973.

A copy of the brochure from the formal opening of the library in 1914 indicates that there were several speeches delivered, the keys were presented to the Mayor, and several piano solos and duets and vocal solos rounded off the gala event.
